The Nasdaq sank 2% on Friday as Netflix dropped nearly 11% post-earnings and Club stock Nvidia fell 10%, entering bear market territory but still up more than 50% in 2024. Following a much stronger-than-expected March retail sales report last month, fresh economic data and six Club stock earnings will take center stage in the week ahead. While lower rates may help stock multiples, that is not a sustainable path to higher equity prices over time. Earnings : The latest quarterly reporting season is starting to ramp into high gear with six Club names set to report next week. Stocks have raced ahead this year, with the S & P 500 trading above the historic 5,000 level. Stocks that have a 14-day RSI greater than 70 are considered to be overbought, meaning they could be at risk of a pullback. Several firms, from Deutsche Bank to Bank of America, walked away from the company's earnings release even more encouraged about its future. On average, analysts have a $111.38 price target on Disney, indicating less than 1% upside from the entertainment giant's last close. Other overbought companies in the S & P 500 are Boston Scientific and Ralph Lauren , which saw shares reach a 9-year high on the company's earnings beat this week.

Using the CNBC Pro Stock Screener tool, we screened for the most overbought and oversold names in the S & P 500 based on their 14-day relative strength index, or RSI. Stocks with a 14-day RSI greater than 70 are considered overbought, meaning they could be at risk of a pullback. Conversely, stocks with a reading lower than 30 typically means that they're oversold and possibly gearing up for a short-term bounce. Energy tech services provider Baker Hughes was one of the few oversold names that analysts have a buy rating on, according to CNBC's screen. All three major averages posted gains for the third consecutive week, lifted by solid quarterly earnings and positive economic data. Earnings season ramps up next week, with five of the Super Six mega-cap stocks delivering results. Employment numbers are the most important economic data, with Friday's January nonfarm payrolls report carrying the most weight. The January ISM Manufacturing report on Thursday and December's factory orders report Friday are expected to show the sector still in contraction mode. I was surprised this week to note the large number of health-care names represented on the new highs list. Here are three stocks in the health-care sector that could provide further upside potential based on their improving technical characteristics. That all changed in November, when BSX finally broke above this well-established resistance level, pushing into the upper $50s this month. From November 2022 to June 2023, AMGN dropped from around $295 to $215, shedding about 27% of its value in just seven months. With any breakouts like this one, it's important to watch the previous resistance level which often serves as price support going forward.

These forms of deep brain stimulation require a surgical procedure during which electrodes — which generate electrical impulses to control any abnormal brain activity — are implanted into certain areas of the brain. With enough advancement in the field, doctors expect brain stimulation techniques for both severe disorders and health-and-wellness purposes will ultimately become noninvasive. Three major players There are only three companies with FDA-approved deep brain stimulation, or DBS, treatments: Medtronic , Abbott Laboratories and Boston Scientific . The spinal cord stimulation, or SCS, business is a hotbed of innovation right now, deep brain stimulation also is a key area." There is still plenty of doubt, however, about the efficacy of at-home brain stimulation devices, which offer a less direct approach to brain stimulation and don't always require FDA oversight.

Sales at Zimmer's knees unit rose 7.5% to $706.3 million, compared to analysts' estimate of $702.9 million. That helped cushion a miss at its hips unit, where sales of $465.3 million compared with estimates of $481.7 million. The Indiana-based company's third-quarter revenue rose 5% to $1.75 billion, in line with analysts' average estimates. Zimmer had said earlier that it expects second- and third-quarter revenue to be a "little bit lighter" compared to the first quarter. The hip and knee implant maker cut its full-year reported revenue forecast to a growth of 6% to 6.5% from 6.5% to 7.0% earlier while backing its full-year profit forecast of $7.47 to $7.57 per share.

Such forecasts have prompted a sell-off in a wide range of companies from makers of bariatric surgery devices to companies whose products address the health issues created by excess weight, from diabetes to sleep apnea. "The market is in a shoot-first, ask-questions-later mood when it comes to weight-loss drugs," said Nicholas Anderson, manager of the Thornburg International Growth Fund, which holds shares of Novo Nordisk. By contrast, the iShares U.S. Medical Devices exchange-traded fund has lost more than 22% in the last three months. Injectable weight-loss drugs, known as GLP-1 receptor agonists, are considered highly effective but are also expensive, costing more than $1,300 per month. "Overall, we'll see an increased interest in bariatric surgery, but that will get delayed in the short term."
